Hang, 6" x 6" x 3", Found Wood
Grasp, 8" x 2" x 3", Found Wood
My aim for this project was to create something functional and small enough for everyday use and easy transportation. Using found wood glued together, I carved out fingers that served as pegs for keeping objects on, such as keys and necklaces, and a hand that has fingers that serves as clothes pegs. The idea of using parts of the human figure to create these every day objects was fun for me. I enjoyed thinking about how people would hang their clothes and various items on these pegs, and yet upon cloesr examination, one would see that they are actually fingers.

PROGRESS
The project has deviated quite a bit from its original concept. I am now creating a hand that would be mounted directly on to the wall, and could be used to hang coats, and fingers that would hold various objects, such as keys and letters.
I also neglected to take photos at the very beginning, to show the original block of wood I had, which I then used the band saws to roughly get it to the shape I wanted it to be in, before sanding away.
Taking on the playful nature of human gestures/ I would like to delve into the many meanings of a general expression/ gesture. I would like to create mini trophies, and head mounts with hand gestures and facial expressions. I would consider fired clay (glazed if possible - will need to speak to ceramics department) on a wood base.
